Illegal Dumping

Dumping unwanted household items, rubbish, green waste, building and commercial waste or other materials is illegal and subject to on the spot penalty notices of $7,500 for individuals, $15,000 for corporation or higher penalty notices if the matter goes to court. 

If you see a possible illegal dumping, obtain as much information as possible, such as:

  • Location where the incident occurred.
  • What was being dumped.
  • Date and time.
  • Registration plates and description of vehicle.
  • Description of person.
  • Any other identifying information.

Council will investigative the matter and consider court prosecution. Any information provided will be held in strictest confidence.

 What to report to council

  • Dumped/abandoned cars (or call police assistance line).
  • Roadside rubbish on local roads.
  • Dumped solid or liquid wastes (can also be reported to the EPA, Police, Crimestoppers).
  • Illegal dumping in council parks.
  • Illegal dumping on Shire beaches.
  • Illegal dumping on private property.

 Waste & recycling collections

Council provides waste and recycling collections for your convenience. Two pre-booked council clean ups, per financial year, are also offered to eligible properties in most areas of the Shire. The pre-booked clean ups must be booked either by an eligible resident or by a strata manager (for large complexes). It is best to plan and book in a clean up at least 8 weeks in advance.
