COVID-19 Community Services Response Grant

The COVID-19 Community Services Response Grant is delivered by Sutherland Shire Council to provide emergency food and care packages to local not-for-profit organisations that provide emergency food and care packages to residents in Sutherland Shire experiencing hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The support will focus on organisations that provide emergency support and have experienced an increase in demand as a result of the pandemic. Organisations must be already be providing emergency services such as food provision and care packages or have a demonstrated ability to do so.

  • Grants are for a maximum of $10,000 per application
  • One application per organisation

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for a COVID-19 Community Services Response grant your application must be specifically targeted in response to COVID-19 in Sutherland Shire LGA. 

Funds can be used to provide food parcels, packaged meals, care packages or suitable gift cards. This can include but is not limited to perishable and non-perishable food items, personal care and hygiene products and other child and family related items.

Funds can also be used to purchase items required for the preparation of packages such as boxes, bags, labels, gloves, hand sanitiser and masks.

Applications for the COVID-19 Community Services Response grant program will be accepted via email to

Applications open Monday 27 September 2021 and close 5pm Friday 8 October 2021.

Please ensure you review the eligibility criteria before beginning your application.

Late applications will not be accepted.

Grant Writing Tips

1. Review the Program Guidelines. Make sure you're eligible to apply and read all of the eligibility criteria before starting an application.

2. Plan. Don't under-estimate the time it takes to prepare an application. Give yourself enough time to collect all the data and input needed.

3. Be concise. The best grants are easy to read, succint and understandable. Avoid jargon.

4. Evidence of need. Describe the need that your project will meet in the community and how it will make an impact. 

5. Budget well. An accurate and balanced budget will help your application stand out from the rest.
