Council Services and Facilities Update

We have shown our obligation to COVID Safety together with our intention to keep our community safe by registering a range of Council’s facilities in the COVID Safe program. This enables organisations to show their commitment to COVID Safety by completing a COVID-19 Safety Plan and registering as a COVID Safe business with NSW Health.

Our key community facilities including Hazelhurst Arts Centre, Community Centres and Halls, Caringbah, Engadine and Sutherland Leisure Centres, Menai Indoor Sports Centre plus all 8 Libraries have all been registered in line with mandatory requirements.

Council has also taken the opportunity to voluntarily register the Administration Building, Bath and Ethell Road Depots, Animal Shelter, Native Plant Nursery, Lifeguards School Education Program and all of our Early Education Centres as an additional precautionary measure and commitment to protecting our staff, customers and visitors.

For further information on the COVID Safe program visit https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/covid-safe-businesses

Please remember to check in to all Council facilities to keep you and your community safe.

Checking in with QR codes and ads are diplaying on your device?

If you happen to scan a Service NSW QR code from one of Council’s signs and your personal device opens up websites advertising a range of products and services, you may be questioning the authenticity of the QR code, or may suspect that the Service NSW website has been compromised.

Why is this happening?

This may be occurring because you are using a free third-party QR code scanner that is supported by advertisements. It is also possible the device camera is opening your default web browser to the correct website, but your device has adware (advertising supported software that displays unwanted advertisements).

What can you do?

Please find below some alternatives for an alternative QR code scanner:
1. Install the Service NSW app and use the COVID Safe Check-In feature.
OR
2. If a new-enough model, use the device's built-in camera to scan and read a QR code.
OR
3. If above options fail / are too difficult, try another QR code scanner that does not serve ads.

If you continue to experience issues checking in with your device, please visit NSW Gov to troubleshoot further.

We thank the community for their patience and consideration of others at this time. Continue to look out for one another, practice good hand hygiene, maintain physical distancing and stay home if you’re feeling unwell.

Council Rates, Charges and Other Accounts - Financial Hardship

We understand that more than ever, some of our debtors may be facing financial hardship. Council will not be charging interest during the period 1 July 2020 to 31 December 2020 on overdue rates and charges. There will also be a moratorium on any legal action taken for debt recovery purposes until 31 December 2020.

It is recommended that if you cannot make full payment by the due date that you schedule ongoing part-payments to suitably manage your outstanding balance.

If you are experiencing financial hardship at this time, we ask that you contact Council on (02) 9710 0333 to explore other measures available to you under Council’s Debt Recovery and Hardship Policy. Alternatively, email us on ratesonline@ssc.nsw.gov.au with your name and contact details and one of Council's officers will contact you.

The Commonwealth and NSW Government are providing financial assistance to individuals and small businesses. We would encourage those who are affected in this way to investigate these support options by reading the information available on the relevant websites: treasury.gov.au and nsw.gov.au.
