Beach Wheelchairs and Mobi Mat

Using the Beach Wheelchairs

When picking up the wheelchair a demonstration will be provided to you by one of our lifeguards. 

There are currently 3 beach wheelchairs available for use:
  • Electric Beach Wheelchair
  • Mobi-chair Beach Wheelchair
  • Hippocampe – All-Terrain Beach Wheelchair
For the safety and convenience of users and other beach goers, some conditions apply to the use of the beach wheelchairs. Please read all conditions on the booking form.

 

Mobi Mat

Council has a mobility mat for community use, free of charge.

The Mobi Mat is a long sturdy mat which can be rolled out over the top of soft sand to ensure everyone can get to the water’s edge – including people who use a wheelchair, or who have difficulty walking. 
The Mobi Mat is available for use at Cronulla Beach (South). 
  • The Mobi Mat will be available every day in Summer from 20 December 2021 until 2 February 2022, from 8am to 4pm subject to beach and weather conditions
  • The Mobi Mat is available on request 7 days a week from 8am to 4pm in summer and 10am to 2pm in winter.
  • The Mobi Mat will need to be booked one day prior for set up and can only be used during times when lifeguards are on duty and conditions permitting.
  • Bookings are necessary and can be made online, or by contacting the Lifeguard Headquarters on 02 8522 2100.
  • The maximum length of booking time is 4 hours per person.

Electric Beach Wheelchair

Council has an electric beach wheelchair for use on the sand donated by St Vincent de Paul. The chair is available free of charge, for short term loans and can be used on the sand only, and not in the water. Beach wheelchairs provide people with the ability to access and enjoy the beach. 
Bookings
Beach wheelchairs are available 7 days a week from 8am to 4pm in summer and 10am to 2pm in winter.
Bookings are necessary and can be made online, or by contacting the Lifeguard Headquarters on 8522 2100.

 

Hippocampe – All-Terrain Beach Wheelchair

 Council has a Hippocampe all-terrain beach wheelchair available for community use donated by St Vincent de Paul. The chairs are available free of charge, for short term loans and can be used on the sand and in the water.  Beach wheelchairs provide people with the ability to access and enjoy the beach.

Mobi-chair Beach Wheelchair 

Council has a Mobi-chair floating beach wheelchair available for community use donated by Elouera Surf Club. As Mobi-Chair enters the water, the large armrests become stable floatation devices, offering an in-water experience for users. The chair is available free of charge, for short term loans and can be used on the sand and in the water. Beach wheelchairs provide people with the ability to access and enjoy the beach.

Beach wheelchairs are available 7 days a week from 8am to 4pm in summer and 10am to 2pm in winter.

Accessible Toilet and Change Room  

An accessible toilet and change room is located at Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club. There is also a shower available for use.
Access to the toilet is available with an electric press button door.

Accessible Parking 

If you're looking to use either of the beach wheelchairs, parking is available at South Cronulla Beach in front of the Surf Life Saving Club.
If you wish to use this space, please inform the lifeguard at the time of your booking so a permit can be arranged for you.
Alternatively, you can drop your passenger off at this location and park elsewhere.
