Sutherland Shire Council is committed to supporting the rights of people with disability to participate equally and meaningfully in the community. Council is dedicated to promoting and enhancing access and inclusion, and celebrating diversity within our community. The 2022-26 Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) supports and guides us in achieving this for our residents and visitors.
1 in 6 people in Australia live with disability, so it's important to have a DIAP that guides our strategic direction - making our services, facilities, information, programs and events more accessible and inclusive. The Disability Inclusion Act 2014 requires Council to develop a DIAP. To view Council's 2017-22 DIAP.
The DIAP focuses on four main areas and how these factors impact the day-to-day life of people living with disability:
1. Creating Liveable Communities
2. Promoting Positive Attitudes and Behaviours
3. Supporting Access to Meaningful Employment
4. Improving Access through Better Systems and Processes
