Welcome to Miss Sofia's Family Day Care. I hope you enjoy taking the time to read about my service and its many benefits for babies, toddlers and preschoolers.

I have been fortunate to work in early education and care for the past 20 years. My experience encompasses preschools, early education centres and in-house private care. After many years in the sector, I am excited to be starting Miss Sofia's Family Day Care, registered with Sutherland Shire Council's Family Day Care scheme.

I am extremely passionate about working with young children and helping to foster their growth and development during their important formative years. I develop strong connections with the children and families in my service. Partnering with parents on their child's journey is key, as the outcomes for children are much greater when Educators and parents liaise closely on their child's interests, milestones, routines and tailored learning program.

Above all, I want every child to feel happy and comfortable and enjoy a strong sense of belonging at Miss Sofia's Family Day Care. I aim to promote each child's love of learning, fostering their natural curiousity for the amazing world around us.

About my service

My service follows the Early Years Learning Framework, the only government-approved framework for children under school age.

Our play-based curriculum is reflective of the children's own voices and interests, their age and stage of development and each parent's individual goals for their child. Our environment is fun, happy, positive and inclusive.

On a weekly basis the children engage in the following activities to promote their development:

  • Literacy and stories
  • Dancing, music, songs and rhyme
  • Arts & crafts
  • Nature play
  • Dramatic & creative play
  • Sensory play
  • Puzzles & games
  • Construction/deconstruction play
  • Outdoor play & physical movement
  • Cultural experiences

The children's learning encompasses language development, cognitive growth, pre literacy and numeracy, gross and fine motor skills, social skills learning and emotional development.

About my facilities

We have a dedicated Family Day Care zone connected to the main house, exclusively for the children's learning and enjoyment.

Our large indoor space is modern, bright and light-filled.

The children and I enjoy playing and exploring the many educational resources available, including a reading corner filled with many children's books, construction zone, home corner, pretend and dramatic play and many other play-based learning resources that change to reflect the children's interests and stages of development.

Our indoor space is air conditioned for the children's comfort when playing and sleeping. Our rest and sleep area is in the Family Day Care indoor zone. We liaise closely with families to learn as much about their child's home routine (sleeping, feeding etc) and we will mirror this, to the greatest extent possible, in my service.

Outdoors, we enjoy a covered deck directly off the indoor Family Day Care space which is ideal for craft and messy play in all-weather conditions.

The side area of our home is an additional space where the children enjoy all-important outdoor play time. Much learning occurs in the outdoors as it does indoors. We enjoy a sandpit, trikes, cubby house, teepee, ball games, craft, engineering explorations and more.

Miss Sofia's Family Day Care is located one minute's drive off the Princes Highway, in close proximity to Sylvania Heights Public School. Our location is ideal for parents travelling to work via the Princes Highway.

"I have known Sofia for approximately 12 years and she is a loving, caring, kind, trust worthy and compassionate teacher. She has looked after my three children on many occasions and the children absolutely adore her. Sofia is always full of energy and always a happy person and her positive energy resonates through to my children too."

"We cannot recommend Sofia enough. We have three children who are currently 1, 4 and 6 years old and they have all loved being cared for by her over the years.  We were lucky enough to meet Sofia in 2016. Since then she has provided exceptional care, attention and love to our kids; always delivering tailored age appropriate education to satisfy their individual needs. Sofia regularly does music, creative and water play activities and they are always tired and happy at the end of each day, which is bliss for us! With Sofia's help, our children have grown in confidence and independence."

"Sofia has regularly cared for our little boy. She continuously provides an array of stimulating and developmentally-appropriate activities for him throughout the day, and she does so in a way that is very thoughtful and fun. There is no doubt that Sofia is very passionate about child care and we are so thankful to have her caring for our son. He loves her very much!"
