Filming and Photography


The Shire is easily accessible by train and car and located just 25 kilometres south of Sydney CBD and 20 minutes from Sydney Airport.

Its natural beauty, cultural centres, community and sports facilities and thriving commercial centres make it suitable for all types of events, filming and photography projects.

Council welcomes film projects and adheres to the Local Government Protocol

Our booking officers can give guidance on suitable locations for your project.

If you are filming on private land, you do not need Council approval. For large shoots a copy of your film management plan is appreciated.

Filming and Photography Permit

Council approval is required for filming or photography held on public land.  A permit will be issued which details the requirements of your shoot.

A completed filming and photgraphy application must be submitted to Council no less than:

  • 4 working days in advance of ultra-low impact filming
  • 7 working days notice for low to medium impact filming
  • 12 weeks notice for high impact filming to ensure traffic management is in place

Please provide a shoot brief including:

  • Location map
  • Community notification letter
  • Authorised safety plan (if applicable)
  • Public Liability Certificate with Sutherland Shire Councilslisted as an interested Party ($20Mil)

Application Fees

Ultra Low Impact (10 or less crew) $0
Low Impact (11-25 crew) $150
Medium Impact (26-50 crew) $300
High Impact (50+ crew + trucks) $500
Photo Shoot $140
Students $0

The above fees are for standard filming.
Large or unique applications may incur additional fees.
Venue fees may apply.
